Of women experience worsening PMDD symptoms during perimenopause, due to increased hormone fluctuations.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that significantly impacts mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It is characterised by debilitating symptoms such as intense mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and physical discomfort like bloating or breast tenderness.
These symptoms typically occur during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle (the week or two before menstruation) and improve shortly after menstruation begins. PMDD is thought to be triggered by an extreme sensitivity to hormonal changes, particularly fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone.
All our menopause doctors are experienced with PMDD. They can help you understand your symptoms and build a personalised treatment plan that works for you.
